Our vision is a city where everyone has food, community, and support.
We feed and serve the immediate needs of the hungry every night of the year so they can build better lives.
The Hollywood Food Coalition, formerly The Greater West Hollywood Food Coalition, has been feeding hot, nutritious meals to homeless and food insecure men, women and children every night of the year, without fail, for over 30 years. In 1987 we answered a call to action from the City of West Hollywood and began passing out sandwiches on a street corner. We grew into a thriving meal service agency, and now serve over 50,000 meals to food insecure Angelinos annually, oftentimes serving over 200 guests each night.
Every day our drivers reclaim food from grocery stores, restaurants, farmer’s markets and film/TV production catering trucks. Every week we rescue over 4500 pounds of perfectly good food that would otherwise be thrown away. Instead, we repurpose it into meals that are are multi-course and nutritionally complete, consisting of soups, meat casseroles, vegetable dishes, breads, green salads, fruit salads, desserts and beverages.
For many of our guests it will be the only food they eat all day.
In addition to our Community Dinner, we also offer an array of additional services such as access to mobile health clinics, housing navigation, clothes, bus passes, blankets, backpacks, and laundry vouchers. We see a future where everyone is afforded the dignity of a full stomach and access to basic needs, where their full personhood is honored, and nobody is pushed to the margins and left to slip through the cracks.
